چکیده

IN T RO DU C T IO N UltraPerformance Convergence ChromatographyTM (UPC2®) is a novel technology that applies the performance advantages of UPLC to supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC). Combining the use of supercritical CO2 with sub-2-μm particle columns, UPC2 represents an analysis technique that is orthogonal to reversed-phase LC and can be used to solve many troublesome separations that challenge conventional LC or GC analyses. It also generates less solvent waste as compared to liquid chromatography. These benefits have led to interest in applying this technology to various industrial analytical areas. The established UPC2/MS approach has potential application in lipidomics as a complementary method alongside LC/MS and GC/MS, as it can separate both polar and non-polar lipids, and in many cases does not require derivatization of lipids to improve detection limits and peak shape. Studies using UPC2 coupled with ultraviolet (UV) detection, mass spectrometry (MS), and evaporative light scattering (ELS) detection for the separation of triacylglycerols in tobacco, corn, sesame, and soybean seed oils are presented in this application note. A single unendcapped C18 column with acetonitrile-modified CO2 was used for the separation of all seed oils.

Analysis of Tricyclic Antidepressants in Human Urine Using UltraPerformance Convergence Chromatography (UPC2)

■ ■ Compatibility with SPE eluate for direct injection IN T RODUC T ION Although tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) are an older class of drug, they remain pharmacologically relevant. For example, inadequate response to other classes of antidepressants in dosed subjects remains common, ensuring the continued viability of TCAs. Furthermore, the fact that they are significantly less expensive than ...

Compositional Analysis of Merck E7 Liquid Crystal Intermediates Using UltraPerformance Convergence Chromatography (UPC2) with PDA Detection

IN T RO DU C T IO N Liquid crystals combine the physical and optical properties of both liquids and solids. They flow and pour like liquids, but have some of the optical properties of solids, such as birefringence. They also react predictably to an electric current, which enables the control of light passage. Due to these properties, liquid crystals are used in many items with electronic displa...

Characterization of triacylglycerol composition of fish oils by using chromatographic techniques.

Triacylglycerols (TAG) of two different refined fish oils from sardine and a mixture of tuna and sardine oil were separated by reverse phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) with a binary solvent gradient of acetone/acetonitrile. Different fractions were observed in the chromatogram and TAG species were tentatively identified by subsequent analysis of the fatty acid (FA) profile...
